There has been a discussion in Reddit about Runescape 07 or OSRS needing a name change. Why? At first I really don’t know what brought this. Will changing the name of the old game we love change anything? Like will it get any better if it did? Or does it have an identity change that merits a name change? Well, let us hear out the one who brought the topic up in Reddit.
RS 2007 Gold: The Root
The original poster of the topic is intro_man from Reddit and suggested with this post a year ago:
“I’m tired out people saying that certain updates shouldn’t pass because this is suppose to be the same dated version of the game it was in 07 and use the argument “its called oldschool/2007scape for a reason” to help them force their own views. Plenty of people voted on the 07 petition just because they liked the older combat style of the game and not EOC styled combat.
Players like me who prefer the time JUST before EOC came into the main game are looking for an experience with NEW regularly updated content and the same pre-eoc combat style.
I don’t care what the game is renamed to as long as it doesn’t enforce the idea the game is to remain in the past.

RS 2007 Gold: Reaction
As people agree with intro_man and yes they do all make sense and I understand, but I disagree. OSRS or Runescape 2007 is still the same game. Yes updates were added but they were just in addition to what the game was when it was released. They were merely complements or fixes to the original game. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the game changed. OSRS is OSRS or Runescape 2007 is Runescape 2007.
In terms of attracting more people if ever there will be a name change, no, that doesn’t assure that it will. Giving it a new name doesn’t mean it will change how the game was from 2007. It might actually turn more people off if ever they tried to play the name changed game “Runescape 2” but finding out that it is the good old OSRS. Keeping the name, sticking to what it is right now brings more integrity to new people and loyalty the old ones.
Even though I disagreed to intro_man, his post really made me think because of how interesting it was. Do we need a name change? Yeah the game might be old but if there is something we need, it is not a name change. I don’t really know what is needed for the game to be more attractive to the old and new players but again, just to emphasize, it is not a name change.
