Against Looking Good in Old School Runescape

MMORPG, Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. I want to emphasize on the Role Playing part. As I get into an MMORPG, I really do roleplay as my character and one of the important things while I roleplay in an MMORPG is that I have to look good. Spending hours in character creation is just a starter for me. Late game customization of my character is essential for me as I enjoy roleplaying in the game.

I have been reading posts in Reddit and lately I have been bumping to comments that they don’t want cosmetic overrides in Old School Runescape. In short, they don’t want to look cool in the game! Looking at it plainly, that’s absurd for someone like me who takes “looking awesome” seriously. But to my curiosity, I want to know why they don’t like such feature. I want to understand why.

RS 07 Gold: Looking Good

Before actually reading through the comments, I had time to think of why are these people going against something that makes the whole experience much better? True enough, I predicted it right because of my experience in MMORPG. Number one reason is that they want to see what other people are really wearing in terms of gear. Without cosmetic override, a player can actually distinguish how powerful one player is by seeing what armor another player is wearing. With this, a player can choose which player to PK (Player Kill) by gauging their armor stats and bonuses. I don’t agree with this because I still believe that skill as a player can still beat someone who is more geared but then again, it will be disadvantageous to attack someone who is stronger or more geared than you are.  Still, merits the saying “Learn To Play.”

RS 2007 Gold: Funny Addition

There are many more reasons that people commented on the thread to the topic and they’re legit reasons in their terms. But one that caught my attention because it’s funny (funny cause it’s true) is this comment:

“Everyone in this community seems to hate everything”

I literally laughed out loud when I read this. With the common notion of any MMORPG community is toxic or hateful towards anything, this is true. Any online community actually, haters are present. So hating on the cosmetic override idea because they just love to hate everything, yeah, no words to that. So much truth on this comment.

As fun as OSRS is, this is one of the reasons that can deter players in playing the game. Something that can make the game more appealing is being hated upon by players of the game and this is not quite a good news for all of us.
