Games Save Lives

They say playing games will do no good in your life. They’re wrong. Playing games brings something good in your life. Sometimes games save lives.

Life Saved Because of Runescape Items

Here is one story from a Runescape player wherein the game somewhat saved his life:

“Early in the morning, at 4am, my brother decided to wake up and check the G.E for his nightly flips. He found that he had just made shit tons of gp on a certain flip he did, and was extremely hyped. So he naturally decides to wake me up to tell me about his recent success. He calls me, I don’t respond. He goes up to my bed tries to wake me. I don’t respond. He forcefully shakes me awake and finally I wake up but something isn’t right. My eyes are open but I’m not responding. I’m just shaking in my bed, eyes staring blindly ahead. He asks me if im okay. I don’t respond.

Turns out that night I happened to swap my doses of my diabetes medication. I have a long, slow acting injection for night times, and a short term one for meals. I am meant to take 30 units of long term, and 15 units of short term. I swapped them, which meant in the night my blood glucose plummeted. I was so low I literally don’t remember any of the things that happened. I came to 30 minutes later, in front of the medical team my brother had called to treat me (because he was unsure what to do after desperately trying to shove orange juice in my mouth which was clenched shut, while i was lying down and unable to rise). It was literally like in the movies where a guy wakes up from coma unsure where he is.

If he hadn’t been awake at 4am in the morning to wake me up I would have certainly died. Normally I would have woken up at 7am. Certainly 3 more hours of sleep at that critically low blood glucose (2.4mmol/l AFTER stabilisation (3.5 is safeish ) ) would have killed me. Runescape, and our addiction to runescape literally saved my life. I’m never going to be as careless, but thanks to Jagex, this community and everyone in runescape for saving me.

TLDR. Diabetic, blood glucose dropped in the night. My brother happened to be awake flipping in runescape and saved my life. Thanks.”

Runescape Items

That’s an amazing story from osamasbigbro. If it wasn’t for Runescape, all of this didn’t happen and the original poster wouldn’t be with us here anymore. I can relate to this story because this sort of event happened to me as well. I remember pretty well that I was so addicted to this certain MMORPG (I won’t say the name because it’s not Runescape, sorry.) that I go home early every day from school, changing my daily routine of hanging out in the mall. One night, I was happily playing the game when I saw the news that a fire broke out in that certain mall and near where I usually hang out with my friends. Plenty of people were hurt and fortunately there was no casualty. I said to myself, “good thing I go home early nowadays because of this MMORPG and I wasn’t present in that place.” Yeah, for me the game saved my life. Not to mention my parents loved it when I arrive home early every time, lol.

Yeah I’m sure people would say that it’s just plain coincidence and games still have no direct good effect on you and in your life. What happened to the saying, “it’s the little things that count”? So yeah, it’s those little things that count that if you take a look in a different perspective, it’s actually big. Games save lives, mine and osamasbigbro at least.
