Hacking is a really big problem for players with OSRS Accounts. Actually, for any game as well, hacking is a pain to deal with. Recently, I have been reading a lot of posts about people getting hacked. If not, their accounts being accused as hacked therefore being a danger to OSRS, therefore, getting banned. Yeah, we know that Old School Runescape is, well, old school but that doesn’t excuse Jagex for not applying ample measures with regards to security. It is one thing that players do their part on their end, but it is also a responsibility of the game company to provide enough security to their players, right?

OSRS Accounts in Danger?

I mentioned that I have been reading a lot of complaints from players about their accounts getting hacked or being involved in hacking incidents. Just like Bicepticlops who posted his experience in Reddit:

The first time i got hacked was shortly after getting membership, where i lost about 7m. I learned from my mistake, got a bank pin, and have been rebuilding and playing normally. Today, months later, i was hacked again. It was the first time i logged on in about 3 days, and immediately i noticed the signs- items were in my inventory that werent there before. At first I thought i was lucky, since there was no way they could get through my pin, but I go to my bank and there i have no cash stack, and all my items of value were taken. OSRS truly is a good game, but I am just sick of the people who have nothing better to do than hack other accounts for like 5m. I have no idea how they got past the pin since it was still there, and the only way i know of getting rid of it takes 3 days. Maybe i’ll make a new account, but it hurts seeing hundreds of hours and my childhood disappearing like that.

It was obvious in the comments section that Bicepticlops didn’t do his part in making his account’s security stronger by not adding 2-step verification in the email but not all people are aware about that nor the educating of players in security enhancing is little to none. Hopefully Jagex will help this poor soul to get his account. Might be in those OSRS Accounts for sale lists already if they don’t do something sooner.
