OSRS Accounts: Player Type

Old School Runescape can be considered to be an old game. No, I am not trying to make a joke about it being old because the word is in the title of the game. In fact, Old School Runescape admits it being old because they want to bring the old feel of the old Runescape. In addition, it is reaching its tenth year in the market already which is pretty old for an MMORPG to keep running. Whether OSRS is profiting from keeping it running or just making ends meet just to satisfy the call of players to keep it running, I don’t know. For all we know there are still many people that have active OSRS Accounts.

OSRS Accounts: Inquiry

We know for a fact that there are still many players playing OSRS. The question is though, which type of OSRS are they? I saw this post in Reddit that was curious to see which of these OSRS players fall on which category. Here is the post:

I recently discovered Oldschool RuneScape after quitting RS about 5 years ago and I immediately fell in love with it again.

However, I started wondering who exactly plays OSRS. Most people I asked were veterans disliking RS3 just like myself. Some told me they were mainly RS3 players which were playing OSRS on an alternate account simultaneously.

I find this extremely interesting so: How about you?

  • Are you a veteran (played RS before RS3)?
  • Are you a “newbie” to OSRS (played only RS3 before)? Why did you make the switch?
  • Are you truly a “newbie” (never played RS before)? Why did you choose OSRS over RS3?
  • Are you playing OSRS and RS3 both? Which would you consider your “main game”? Why are you playing the other game as well?

The distribution of the player base seems incredibly important to me. Most people I’ve asked said they were veterans, but this is actually not too good. The number of veterans is limited and OSRS requires “fresh meat” (either from RS3 or truly new players) in the long run.
