Botting (the use of bots) in an MMORPG has always been an offense, most of the time, a major one. Game moderators watch for players who use this kind of “cheat” for whatever reason to impose the rules and regulations on them. Usually, one day or two days ban is the punishment for first time offenders. And for those who likes to live dangerously and repeat on the major offense, permanent ban on their account is the sentence.
Though this is considered as a bad act, is there any way that botting in an MMORPG is reasonable? Will there be any reason for it to be accepted and will be let off by game moderators? Here is one player who shared his mind on botting in Old School Runescape.
Old School Runescape Gold: His Story
Ajaugust from reddit posted his story on why he botted in OSRS:
“First off this isn’t a pity thread about being falsely banned. I’ve been playing runescape legit since 2004 and have been jagex’s number 1 supporter in that time.
I quit rs3 shortly after eoc only because I was max combat stats and almost all skills 80+. I wouldn’t have picked up the game again if it wasn’t for old school runescape.
I enjoyed the nostalgia so much. It was epic redoing old quest favorites and getting those xp gains again. After 3 years of osrs I just decided its time to move on. I was done.
I botted for three days. Woke up this morning and was disconnected upon login and slapped with a 2 day ban. Expecting perm ban soon.
I love you jagex. You gave me the greatest childhood game ever and I’ve always backed your decisions and updates, especially this one. I’m 27 now. I was 14 when I first created aj August. Goodbye dear friend. I’ll always remember our adventures. And good luck to players past present and future. I took the fun way out.”
RS 07 Gold: My Say
Well, if analyzing, he didn’t give any reason on why he botted but with the mere fact that he is a veteran player who has almost maxed out stats. That isn’t a valid reason to bot. All I can get from this post is that he is done with the game but can’t let go because he allocated so much time on it. It was only validated when he did the offense and was “forced” to quit because of the perma-ban. His reason is not an excuse to the rules and regulations of the game, or any game for that matter. Actually, no, botting can never be reasonable in my opinion. It is harmful to the game in all angles therefore punishable at once.
