Early in the tutorial quest, players of Runescape are introduced to Fishing as a means of obtaining food. What the tutorial does not say however, is how this skill can lead to lots of Runescape gold at higher levels. This guide will show you how to get there quickly and earn some extra RS gold on the side.

Getting Fishing Levels 1-20 without Runescape gold

One of the great things about fishing is that it is really cheap. The first 20 levels can be done without any Runescape items to buy. That way, all you have is pure Runescape gold profit for each Crayfish sold. To start, get your character to Lumbridge and look for Crayfish fishing spots along the river. Your character will then use the free Crayfish Cage in his/her toolbelt. Each catch is worth 10xp (30xp if you also cook it.)

Levels 20 to 99 with minimal Runescape gold use

When you hit level 20 in fishing, it’s time to go get yourself a fly fishing rod and some feathers. If you really want to save on Runescape gold, you can kill chickens around Lumbridge to get feathers. Once you have these two items, head back to the river and start fly fishing for trout. Catching these will bag you 50xp while cooking the fish gives 70xp. A great start for new Runescape accounts.
