Someone asked an interesting question in Reddit under the Old School Runescape section. The post was: “Everyone keeps talking about what they really want to see in OSRS. Be it more bosses, better loot, quests, etc. But.. What is something you really don’t want in OSRS?” I found it very appealing as it was the opposite of common posts of rants as to what they wanted to be in a game, or what was missing in the game they need to add, for this instance, in Old School Runescape.

As the original post had the unusual inquiry, what caught my attention more was a reply saying, “Cosmetic Overrides. I want to know what the hell you’re wearing.” This reply made sense to me because I think he just wanted to see how strong a player, whether an ally or an opponent, at first glance. With this, he can distinguish instantly if he can easily beat an opponent in a fight or see if a player is capable and merits a party invite. This can be very convenient and that’s why I see the reply reasonable.
Though I accept the (might be) reason to his reply to the initial question, I can’t fully agree to his post. As a long MMORPG player, I have always looked for customization or outfitting in a game first. I think an MMORPG is good if you can freely change the look of your outfit regardless of what you’re armor set is. For example in WoW, I loved raiding there because I can raid while looking good. Being able to transmogrify my armor set in WoW made me feel I was raiding with style which was really gratifying.

A solution to his request is to add an inspect function when you click a player to see on what he is really wearing, whether there is an outfitting function or not in OSRS.
